HUFFY LeGRANDE

A co-worker gave me this Huffy LeGrand 10 speed bike in 1996. It had belonged to his grown son who no longer wanted the bike. After hanging in my friends garage for years he wanted it out of his way. I have acquired several bikes in like manner.

The bike was in good condition when he gave it to me. It had the usual scratches but was better than most bikes ridden by teenagers. A test ride revealed that everything worked. A minor adustment to the front and rear deralliers improved shifting. The brake pads were understandably hard as a rock from age but the cables were free in the housings. After servicing all moving parts I gave the bike a good clean-up I went about replacing worn items, making some modifications, and adding some accessories of my own. The list below describes this what was done.

  • Mounted new tires and tubes
  • added a parcel rack and bag
  • Replaced the chain
  • Re-positioned the bars to an upright position
  • Installed new grips
  • Replaced the brake levers and pads
  • Installed a new gel seat

The finished product rides very well. The riding position is upright and comfortable.

The bike presently is on long term loan to my daughter who uses it infrequently. This is acceptable to me since it provides me with a bike to ride when we visit her and her family.

I hope you enjoyed looking at this bike and I welcome your comments.
